Fruit Ninja for Windows Phone 7 (click to open with Zune)Fruit Ninja has taken the Windows Phone 7 marketplace by storm. Released before Christmas, in less than a week it has rocketed through the charts and is currently the #1 paid app on WP7. For our review we can simply focus on the fact that this game is F-U-N: swipe the screen with your sword-armed-finger to cut flying fruit before it falls on the floor; get combo points for cutting multiple pieces at the same time and avoid bombs or else watch the game-over screen popping up.

The goal of the Classic mode is to make as many points as you can; play until three pieces of uncut fruit fall on the floor or hit a bomb. Action picks up pretty quickly: you can chose to either try to cleanly cut every piece of fruit (effective to avoid bombs) or frantically swipe back and forth at everything that comes at you (effective tactic when there are a lot of objects on the screen); or (better) a combination of the two.
The Zen mode ha no bombs, no lives and only 90 seconds to end: get as many points as you can in this mode. The Arcade mode is a mix of the two, there is a time limit but there are special bananas that will give you more time or more fruit as well as bombs that will take away some points.

This is an Xbox Live enabled game, and this is awesome: see your friends leaderboards in the three modes, or see who slices more fruit overall. Of course there are Achievements (stop drooling now, please) and they are relatively easy: we unlocked half of the achievements in the two hours of play without even trying to beat them. There is also a little avatar interaction: your Xbox alter-ego will pop up on the home screen, but nothing more than that.
