#1 – StockMap ($0.99, Trial)

StockMap is our favorite stock app available on Windows Phone 7 today. It is a simple app, but goes straight to the point and it is very well executed.
You can add symbol and number of shares very quickly. No need of menus, searches and lookups, a stock symbol is 3 or 4 letters, how hard can it be!
After adding the symbols, StockMap can give you an immediate snapshot of how your portfolio is doing, by creating a puzzled image with the symbols and coloring it based on their value change. There, in a snapshot you see who is going up and who is going down, straight on your WP7 home screen’s tile! Right now the live tile displays up to seven stocks, but it does so in the most clear and concise way we have seen on Windows Phone 7.
Far from a complete stock management app, StockMap delivers on its promises and hence gets our top spot. StockMap has a free trial, you should give it a try if you are looking for a way to quickly glimpse at your portfolio and then go back to what you were doing.

#2 – iStock Lite (Free)

iStock is a complete and free stocks management app for Windows Phone 7. The landing page is a market view with index values and most active stocks. You can add stocks to your watch list that can display 8 stocks in one screen (of course you can scroll the list and add more).
Selecting the company details you can see quotes, news, some technical analysis data and interesting guru analysis/recommendations and the charts. The app has paid versions that increase the number of gurus and provide more details on their ratings.
The problem with this app is the UI. It is not metro standard and the controls are slightly cluttered, but that is not a big deal; the real problem are the colors choice. Everything is green or black with different gradients, things are hard to read on the phone – the charts are almost unreadable – and overall is a little punch in the eye compared to other apps.
But, the app is quick enough (even if search could be faster), it has lots of information and it’s free, so it gets our 4 stars mark.

#3 – Stock Alert Live! ($ 0.99, Trial)

StockAlert Live is another good stocks app for Windows Phone 7, made by Kabzara.
It allows users to manage a basic stock list, with 6 quotes nicely displayed on the live tile of your WP7’s home screen.
On the main page, you access the list of quotes with updated price and daily movement; there is no portfolio-style management for purchased quantity or price, though. Adding a symbol to the list is easy enough: enter a symbol, search, select the result, done.
Rearranging the list or removing a symbol not so simple: you need to tap and press the entry and wait for the popup menu to show. The delay is so long that you will give up most of the times thinking that this is not supported or bugged.
Selecting a symbol gets you to a simple stock detail page, this includes alerts, company news and a super-basic chart functionality.
The trial option allows you to add only 4 symbols to the list and does not have the live tile functionality, so keep in mind that you will miss some features if you don’t spend the $ 0.99 required for the full version.

There are many stocks and portfolio management apps in the WP7 marketplace today, and not all of them have good review scores. We have selected some of the best ones out there and ranked the top 5 that are best suited for your trading taps.We did not look at general financial apps (Pageonce still shines in that category, see our review here), but only to those apps that show you stock quotes, news, charts and sometimes offer portfolio management.Here we go with Number 5:

#5 – Stock Watch (Free)

This app is free and this is good. It is also the app with the best charts of all we tried, the only one displaying the stochastic curve for your beloved stocks.But… the user interface is a mess. Input UI and functionalities are really confusing. For example, the app has both a watch list and a portfolio, but you cannot enter quantity and price for the stock in the portfolio (?).Another example is the UI to add a symbol to your list: you type a symbol, a pop up list shows up, you select the symbol, hit search (?) and then select add to portfolio again (???) Stock Watch includes a handy currency exchange section, together with movers and markets watch, but has no live tile to see your portfolio move from your WP7 home screen.

The UI has improved over time, but is still messy and confusing, Nonetheless, this app is worth your taps because of the charts, and it’s free, so check it out.

Pageonce Personal Finance – WP7 Review

Pageonce Personal Finance is a nice handy app for quick access to your financial assets on Windows Phone 7. The UI is appealing and elegant with pleasant colors and well integrated with metro (not all the good WP7 apps have gotten this right yet).

It is also easy to use: type the name of your financial institution, enter your credentials, and the app will retrieve the list of your accounts, the balance and the transaction history (a pretty animation will play while you wait your data here, nice touch). Overtime, your balance on the institution will plot a graph – useful feature that will show you if you are spending more than your income!

You can also add bills to the account. Pageonce does a great job in talking to all sorts of utilities, from insurance, to energy, to phone companies seamlessly: your statements and bills are always easily readable.

Back to the home screen, you have a useful quick view of your cash, credit cards balance, pending bills and your investments – this at a glance view is one of the best we have seen yet, it gives a great sense of control of what is going on in your financial situation.

We would have appreciated some advanced features such as the ability to ignore specific accounts in our financial institution as well as the current status of the stocks in our portfolio.

The app is also supported by the Pageonce.com web site that can be used to add more accounts, or view in more details your transactions. Overall this site is not advanced like, say, mint.com with planning, budgeting and review of your past transactions, but it does a decent job in help you understanding how your finances are doing.

The site is also trying to integrate other types of accounts that don’t really belong, like your twitter or email accounts; this is not convincing: we don’t think about twitting our balance when we look at our bank account…

Overall, Pageonce is the best personal financial app we have tried on WP7 so far. Don’t hesitate to try it out, it is free
