Color selection could be easier with predefined colors and making front and back of the same color, also the slider for the font size is hard to tap, but overall this app is pretty simple and gets the job done well.

Search for airline name and flight number and see what the status of your flight is. Simple, right? Wait, there’s more: Live Tiles!

The paid version of Flight Monitor allows you to pin to your start screen the flight you want to follow, and here is where the magic happens: the live tile will tell you how many minutes before the flight takes off, then give you an precise idea of where it is with a mini-map and in how much time it is expected to land, and finally the icon changes to indicate that the flight has landed. Perfect!

Bing provides all the info for the flights, and we were able to track US, European and intercontinental flights with no problem – which you don’t get with other flight track apps.

Flight Monitor loses half a star in our rating for the price: $3.99 seems an expensive tag price for a simple service – we are sure that the sales of the app could get a boost with a $ 1 or $ 2 price tag!

Another half star is lost in the poor search interface: too many clocks to get to the airline, and if you know a flight code it should be possible to enter it directly. Also a list of recent flights or favorites would complete this app.

Nonetheless, this is the best flight tracking app we have found on Windows Phone 7, so if you are flying or waiting for someone who does, check it out: you won’t be disappointed.

Be warned: this is not a soccer game, but a puzzle one: you have to clear all the colored soccer balls placed on the board on each level. Hitting the balls makes one of the two flying off the board; hit them all until there is only one.

Clearing the board requires strategy: the balls can only move horizontally or vertically on the board and you might remain with no moves left and still a lot of balls on the board. The handy undo option will help you backtrack your moves though, making most boards not frustrating.

Bump out has 150 Levels with a level-by-level mode and a timed mode; the boards are interesting and should keep you intrigued for a while. Graphics are basic (especially on menus) but do the job.

Bump Out is a recommended pastime for your WP7: check it out.

You simply enter the name of the new group/category you want to create (for example games, utilities) and select Create Category, New Group will create a tile with that text in it, that you can place in your start screen where you need to make order.

That is it. Simple but powerful!

If you were expecting real folders, well then we have to ask to the Apollo team (the next version of the Windows Phone 7 OS).

The color of the tile will match your theme background; if you change theme you need to launch the app once to update the tiles’ color.

When you need to order the tiles on your home screen, new group is a great and free way to do it- tap it out to see.

Tunes are available from the classical NES and N64 titles: Super Mario Bros 1,2 and 3, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG and Super Mario 64.

Multiple tunes per game are available – you can simply preview the jingle, save it to your phone and make it your ringtone right from the app. The app is snappy and very responsive, which helps your navigation through the available tunes.

Tunes in this app are original and acquired from supermariobrothers.org, a super-fan based web site. One of our favorite tunes is Mario Underworld, but, after sampling a few tunes, we ended up with setting the Level Complete tune from Super Mario Bros as our new ringtone. Now heads turn when our phone rings: sweet!

So it comes down to timing: you play against the clock trying to untangle birds faster than they tangle up. A game can be very long if you are fast enough – leaderboards show games with several hundred birds freed which require quite some time – and at the same time challenging and fun!

Game Art is good but not great with mixed colors (especially on the menus) and music is anywhere between funny and annoying (it can be either one, based on your taste and mood).

ConnectivityShortcuts is currently the bestseller in this category, and we must say it is simple and to the point, so it is well deserved.

Other apps like WP Shortcut Tiles or Network Dashboard are also available: they are useful and well designed, but Connectivity Shortcut was the one we preferred for its simplicity.

Just pin it to your start menu and with 2 taps you can control Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, the Cellular radio and the Airplane mode. You can also pin one of these shortcuts directly to the start screen to complete this task with one less tap – if you use these switch a lot you will save tons of taps over time!

Connectivity Shortcuts is one of the best seller Mango-only app of the moment, we recommend you to try it out.

Runkeeper has been out for a while, but it still stands out for its simplicity and effectiveness among the fitness and running apps on WP7, it does what you need: measures the speed, distance, calories and tracks your path on the map.

Runkeeper supports multiple activities besides running, including cycling, walking, hiking and so on, it simply tracks the progress and reports it to you.

No fanciness like tracking your position to the significant other or showing you routes on the map, nothing advanced: just plain activity data that is useful to most beginner to intermediate runners.

After the activity is complete, you can post the results to the major social networks with a comment, as long as you registered your online profile to runkeeper.com (which we find a bit odd, why can we not post it from the app directly?).

The site also supports more advanced stats for more professional runners than we are, for a monthly fee. If you are marathon runners, check it out to see if it’s worth your money.

One defect that we found is that the app has a hard time to lock on the GPS when it starts. We have to wait a bit before it lock on, sometimes we need to get out of the app, run GMaps, wait for it to lock on and then come back to Runkeeper again. This is not a deal breaker, though – as long as you know and wait for it to pick up the signal.

Runkeeper is free, so if you are looking for a running or other activity companion for your WP7, check it out.

Note that there are 2 versions on the marketplace, the free one – reviewed here – and a paid version that for $ 1.49 will give you no ads, full screen videos and written walkthroughs. Unfortunately the paid version does not have a free trial…

The app had some juvenile issues with multiple reports of startup and content problems, but the last update seems to have fixed all the hiccups. We have been able to see the content and play the videos nicely in the past few days on our Samsung Focus – no problem.

The apps features clips from the latest program or per topic, as well as full broadcasts (which we love) and a selection of the most viewed videos. The video playback is smooth but not high quality (not even on the web it is), with basic Facebook sharing functions.

NBC News with Brian Williams is one of our favorite news casts on TV, and it will become one of our top news sources, together with the other WP7 best news apps and the recent USA Today.

This app is based on the music television news feed, built on top of the beautiful Windows Phone Metro framework, and a design inspired by MSN Wonderwall.

Showbiz news is the main focus here, of course. Many music idols on the front page, with more content covering different areas of juvenile interest: Music, Celebrity, Shows and Movie News are the categories that can be included or removed in the settings.

The video section contains only (!) 10 shortcuts to MTV broadcast news, but they load quickly and the video quality is good. A good picture gallery section gives coverage on several events (To give you an idea: Transformers movie premiere… Ryan Dunn career…).

The Blogs section gives you access to several MTV blogs that go beyond the categories above – for example MTV Multiplayer – making it a worthy part of the app.

Live Tile updates complete this good news app, which you want to tap if you are interested in MTV’s news in the first place.

Well, this is deserved: the debut app for Paul Hoenecke is a great mix of vertical shooter and comics fun. Your ship’s captain interacts with his robot, second in command and arch-enemy at the beginning of each stage. These are off beat conversation, as well as fun ways to introduce game controls, settings and story.

Gameplay is basic but fun: hold your finger on the ship and it will start shooting. Swipe left and right to avoid enemies’ bullets while you take them down, until you get to the stage boss for the level final battle. Graphics and animations are very good: smooth and stylish and help raising the quality of the app overall.

Achievements and leaderboard services are provided by Mogade.com, a new service available for Windows Phone developers, currently in beta.

Danger Wing is a good shooter game with solid gameplay, graphics, sounds and fun dialogue between characters. If you ever liked any vertical shooter you should not miss it – hey, it’s free! Click on the icon below to download it on your Windows Phone 7.

Sonic 4 is one of the best sequels of the original Sonic the Hedgehog that we played back in 1991. Forget about the 3D, this is pure Sonic gameplay in 2D at its core, oh and yeah, it’s gooood!

Sonic runs, try to catch rings as fast as possible, and get to the end of the level in the shortest time possible and wit the maximum amount of rings.

Easy enough? Yeah. Fun? Yeah. Dejavu? Who cares as long as it’s fun!

After many mistakes and mis-steps, Sega returns to the original 2D scrolling and copies a lot from the original game. Indeed this is almost a remake: graphic and sound are from the original game, but with some twist like special tilt controlled stages.

Like in iOS there are virtual joystick controls (default and preferred) as well as tilt controls – that are an interesting new approach to the game, but will have you tilt your head for the entire level (which is no fun for your neck after a while).

The only complaint that we have is the price, 7 bucks seems overpriced, it’s almost the price of the console game, and then on the iOS is only $ 5, that is more the price point for this game, ioho.

Anyways, hit the road with the blue hedgehog and try the game with the Free Trial, you will be able to decide whether to buy or not (we are on the fence and give 4 stars because of the price). Do you think the game is worth $ 7?

The app is personalized with the colors and live tile of your favorite team selected at the first run. At launch you access your team’s page with results from the latest match, the next game and top news. Panning to the right you can access matchday: all the games in the premium US football (with lowercase F) league. Each match has a summary, a write up of the plays and full video highlights: this is the best part of the app, you can view the video clips of a finished game on a 90 minute slide; follow the action as the match unfolds. The quality of the video is not always the best though, this is an area of improvement for the app.

Interesting take is the “find pubs” section: for every team in the MLS there is a selection of pubs in the club’s hometown that will air the game: you can see where the pub is on a map or call the pub to check if the beer is cool and the heat is up: cheer for your MLS team with a beer (and your WP7)!
