Tunes are available from the classical NES and N64 titles: Super Mario Bros 1,2 and 3, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG and Super Mario 64.

Multiple tunes per game are available – you can simply preview the jingle, save it to your phone and make it your ringtone right from the app. The app is snappy and very responsive, which helps your navigation through the available tunes.

Tunes in this app are original and acquired from supermariobrothers.org, a super-fan based web site. One of our favorite tunes is Mario Underworld, but, after sampling a few tunes, we ended up with setting the Level Complete tune from Super Mario Bros as our new ringtone. Now heads turn when our phone rings: sweet!

This app is based on the music television news feed, built on top of the beautiful Windows Phone Metro framework, and a design inspired by MSN Wonderwall.

Showbiz news is the main focus here, of course. Many music idols on the front page, with more content covering different areas of juvenile interest: Music, Celebrity, Shows and Movie News are the categories that can be included or removed in the settings.

The video section contains only (!) 10 shortcuts to MTV broadcast news, but they load quickly and the video quality is good. A good picture gallery section gives coverage on several events (To give you an idea: Transformers movie premiere… Ryan Dunn career…).

The Blogs section gives you access to several MTV blogs that go beyond the categories above – for example MTV Multiplayer – making it a worthy part of the app.

Live Tile updates complete this good news app, which you want to tap if you are interested in MTV’s news in the first place.

A few weeks back we reviewed Kids TV, an app to view older cartoons on your WP7 straight from YouTube channels. Cartoon TV is the same concept, but there is MUCH MORE CONTENT here than in Kids TV.

Cartoon TV allows you to watch a live channel or view classic videos. The selection on classic videos is impressive: From Bugs Bunny to The Flintstones, from Mickey Mouse to Popeye, from Tom and Jerry to Spiderman, the list is very very long, and getting longer.

Again, they are simply links to videos available on You Tube, but here the value is in having collected all this directory information in a single app. The quality of the You Tube videos is usually low, but this is intended as entertainment on the go for agitated kids that need some relax, so we think this is ok.

The $ 1.99 are well spent, the work required to maintain the video catalog is worth it. New series are being added along, making the investment future proof as well. If you have kids or just want to watch some classic cartoons on your Windows Phone, download Cartoon TV, you will be glad you did.

The word of the day is also displayed on your Live Tile; this is an interesting way to learn new terms: no need to launch the app for it.

UrbanDictionary.com terms are submitted by users and edited by voluntaries; as you browse, watch out for explicit words, most terms have the handy #$%@ characters, but some don’t, if you have kids around you might want to be aware of this.

Overall this is a good app, the UI is snappy and the content useful – tap it and pin it to your home screen for a daily slang refresh.

Like its cousin, Weave, the app manages the news efficiently: feeds load fast enough (on WiFi is faster, of course) and the navigation is well integrated with the Metro UI.

Tapping on the article details opens an internal browser that uses Google Mobilizer to get a lightweight, mobile optimized version of the web page you want to read. News articles can be shared on Facebook or via email and the real web site can be opened inside WP7 IE for a richer browsing experience.

Besides the news feeds, the app offers a Featured News tab, the latest WP7 tweets and a selection of apps called today’s apps.

So, even BestWP7Apps.net is still not one of the sources included in WP7 News (argh!), we *still* believe this app is worth your taps: it is a great source of information for everything related to WP7, packaged in a great and complete app. Best of all… it’s free!

Machinima.com hosts series of gaming related video shows, some made with machinima technique (a-la Red vs. Blue) and others just plain video series (podcasts). The site is quite popular, claiming 45 Million unique users in January.

The app has Featured Videos, a Most Viewed section; a Shows section and a Gameplay one. You can share your favorites via email, Facebook or Twitter and bookmark your vids on the phone.

Our favorite series are Inside Gaming and Respawn – in the gameplay section we follow Call of Duty and Halo – we learned a lot of multiplayer techniques with these videos and it was the only option for us to see how the nuke works in MW2.

The app is snappy; the featured section is interesting and helps discovering new series. Even if it uses Youtube under the covers, the quality of the video is great on my Samsung Focus: the video loads quickly and runs smoothly – especially on Wi-Fi.
