Parachute Panic for WP7 Review

Parachute Panic ($2.99, Trial)
Parachute Panic was released this week on Windows Phone 7 by FDG Entertainment. It is a simple, but fun and addicting Xbox Live enabled game, and is quickly climbing the charts (7th most popular paid app as we write) as well as receiving lots of good reviews (4.5 stars average over 100 reviews).
The game mechanics are simple: parachutists launch off a plane and need to land on the ships below. Tap on the falling skydivers and the parachute opens; swipe in the direction you want them to go and the wind will push them to follow your orders. As the parachutists fall, lots of dangerous things happen around them: sharks jump out of the water to eat your heroes; helicopters fly by shredding them to pieces; storm lightings fry them in mid-air and UFO abduct them with an attraction laser! You have to either quickly tap on the danger sources to crash them or have the falling soldiers avoid the perils.Nice things also happen in the air, though: Doodle Jump main character makes a cameo appearance (!) falling from his jumpy world – tap on him (it?) as many times as possible to get extra points; fishes fly in the air: catch them with the falling soldiers for points and finally storks with babies fly by: catch them for extra lives – doh!
As we mentioned, the game is simple, but FRENETIC! You will tap and swipe, swipe and tap frenetically and your fingers will get tired and sore after a few matches. This is an Xbox Live game, so it has Achievements. You will easily get the first handful of Cheevos, but getting all the 200 gamerpoints will be a challenge (and a good training for your fingertips!)With Live, Leaderboards are also supported and if you have friends that played this, the game will challenge you to beat them one by one – fun! Finally you can send an email to invite a friend to download and play the game and beat your high score.
Graphic on the game is hand drawn but with personality and clean effects, the main music theme is not the best catchy tune around, but passable – the main screen tune is really fun though and you might just wait there to sing along with it.On the downside, you will not find a lot of variety in this game, and the price is a little above other platform’s.

Verdict (version reviewed: 1.0.0.0)

Parachute Panic was featured in the Windows Phone 7 CES 2011 trailer and rightfully so because it is a very good and addicting game for our Windows Phone 7.
